As you’ve most likely heard already, Theo Bos of Rabobank appears to have grabbed, and pulled down, race leader Daryl Impey during the final kilometer of the final stage of the Tour of Turkey. I have watched the video a few times, and it appears pretty clear to me, but maybe I am missing something. (Upon further review, I actually believe that Bos was simply giving him a push because they were getting squeezed to the left so bad. The problem is that at that kind of speed, a little push can be catastrophic. Watch the slo-mo video on Velonews, it is actually fairly clear.) Go ahead and watch for yourself. I think he goes down about minute 3:45.
If he did it, I wish he’d just fess up, admit to it and apologize in a big way. If he didn’t, then what the hell WAS he doing? I don’t get it. Either way, the aftermath for Impey sucks. He has a fractured disc, broken teeth, micro fracture in the neck and the usual cuts and abrasions. If there is any good news, Impey still won because the crash happened in the final kilometer.
